Birkbeck University of London is a public research university located in Bloomsbury, London. It was established in 1823 as the Birkbeck Literary and Scientific Institution by philanthropist William Jones, who had been made a Baronet for his services to education. The institution became a college in 1887 and gained its present name after being granted a royal charter in 1966.

Today it has more than 120 departments:

covering arts and humanities;
business, management, finance and accounting;
law;
social sciences including psychology and sociology;
medical sciences including biomedical sciences with six world-class research institutes.

The university has also recently introduced an International Foundation Year for non-native speakers who want to gain entry on to their undergraduate degree course at Birkbeck with advanced level proficiency in maths or science subjects where required.

Campus Birkbeck University of London

Is based in Bloomsbury, the heart of historic London. It’s home to some of Britain’s most outstanding cultural attractions and iconic landmarks including the British Museum, National Gallery, London Transport Museum and popular shopping areas such as Covent Garden which offer students a unique experience while studying at Birkbeck.

The city centre campus is located just off Russell Square tube station on one of Europe’s busiest underground lines (Piccadilly Line) with nearby access to transport links for international airports via Heathrow Express rail services from King’s Cross St Pancras Station which are directly linked to central London by Tube. The university also has two other campuses in Scarborough and one of Europe’s largest city campuses at Stratford, which are dedicated to the study of business.
